Panthers Win at Camden

July 2004

The Rising Stars Panthers U12 boys team took first place at the Camden Soccer Sensation July 17, 2004. The Panthers went undefeated with a record of 2 wins and 2 ties.
In their first game the Panthers started slowly falling behind by 2 goals in the first half to East Syracuse-Minoa. The game shifted the Panthers way with a second half goal by Andrew Crumrine. Joel Kamilow tied the game with a sliding shot minutes to play. The game ended in a 2 to 2 tie.
The second game featured a seemingly unbeatable team from Auburn who in their first game shut out ESM with little effort. The Panthers came out with confidence scoring the first goal, beating the skilled Auburn keeper with a shot in the upper 90 by Dylan Thomas. Auburn came back to tie the game early in the second period. Matt Twitchell scored the teams second goal before Auburn tied it minutes later. The end result a 2 to 2 tie.
The third game was a must win re-match against ESM. The Panthers dominated the game beating ESM 2 to 1. Zac Boutin scored the game winner with minutes to play.
In a turning point of the tournament, the ESM Wolves beat the previously unbeaten Auburn team 6 to 3. The game featured a double yellow card (red card) to Auburn's dominant center midfielder thus resulting in his suspension for the balance of the game and the final game to be played against the unbeaten Rising Stars Panthers.
The fourth game was the highly anticipated re-match against the Auburn Wolves. The Panthers needing only a tie to win the tournament came out strong scoring early in the game. A tie was not on their minds. Auburn tied the game minutes later to put the pressure on. The Panthers responded with a quick second goal giving them the 2 to 1 lead before the game was called due to weather.
The Panthers playing in extreme heat, scored key goals when needed and received excellent goaltending from Matt Twitchell and Zac Boutin. The defense was dominant with the speed of Dennis Halpin and Dylan Thomas, the toughness of Michael Lynch and of course Shaun Hadity (the wall). The defense gave up only 6 goals in 4 games. The midfield was steady, controlling most of the play, with Zac Boutin, Ben Toach, Luke Bogar, Joey Ventura, Aaron Tompkins and Andrew Crumrine. The forwards proved to be too much to handle for the opponents with the speed of Joel Kamilow (in his first appearance as a Rising Star) and the power of Matt Twitchell.
With a very successful indoor season, the Panthers completed the soccer year in style. A great job by all players including, Matt Brundage, Brandon DelMonte, Mike Lallier, Trevor Creedon and Pat Buck who played during the indoor season but were unable to attend the Camden Tournament. A special thanks to all the parents who in ice and snow and extreme heat were able to bring the players to games as well as practice. The players thank you.
